Peppermint Mocha Lactation Bites

Let me preface this by saying, these are not just for breastfeeding women! Anyone and everyone can enjoy these chocolatey, cozy, christmasy treats!

My favorite Christmas flavor is definitely Peppermint Mocha! I love chocolate and the peppermint gives it an almost refreshing twist. What I love about these treats specifically is that they are nutrient dense and very easy to make with ingredients you probably already have at this time of year!

The reason they get the title of “lactation bites” is mostly because they’re a great way to get easy nutrition for breastfeeding and pumping mamas who need all the energy they can get! Did you know that breastfeeding uses an additional 500 calories per day!? Oats are also known to be lactogenic- helping the body produce milk for baby! Now- the amount you’re getting probably isn’t making a huge difference if these are the only oats or lactogenic foods you’re eating but every little bit counts! So, don’t fret if you are not breastfeeding or pumping, eating oats will not stimulate lactation so they’re safe & encouraged for anyone!

With that- and sparing you my whole life story since this recipe was literally made up this morning- here’s the recipe!

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup rolled oats

  • 1/3 cup maple syrup

  • 2 TBSP cocoa powder

  • 1/2 cup peanut butter

  • 1/4 cup chocolate chips

  • 2-4TBSP crushed candy canes

Directions:

  1. Add all ingredients to a medium sized bowl and mix well until combined

  2. Let the “dough” sit in the fridge for about 5-10 minutes to harden

  3. After 5-10 minutes in the fridge, use a spoon to make small 1/2 inch balls. Enjoy immediately or store for up to a week in the fridge!
